Getting to Big Buddha Beach
By Ferry, Express
Boat & Night Boat When the Ferry arrives at Samui
you must hurry to where the bus stops (about 50m from the
Ferry) so it does not drive off without you. Some Thai people
will get off the bus at the Ferry port on Samui but you
must get back on. You will then be driven to the main town
of Samui called Nathon (pronounced with a soft "t").
When you get to Nathon you should find a Song Thieow (a
red coloured half bus half taxi type vehicle, the size of
a pick up truck) which is going to Choengmon, Big Buddha,
or the Airport.
The Express Boat Arriving at
Nathon
The fare should be
50 Baht each, and ask the driver to stop at your Bungalow
resort. You may be approached by drivers from the yellow
"Taxi Meter" taxis... This is okay if you want
to drive in comfort, air con, and alone. The fare could
be up to 300 Baht each. If you happened to get on the wrong
bus by mistake and have been run around by a mad mini bus
driver all over Surat Thani town, then you will eventually
be herded onto one of two small looking vessels, the Express
Boat or the Night Boat, with as many other poor souls as
they can find, and you will have to sit in crowded and cramped
conditions for 2 1/2 hours. The boat pulls onto the jetty
at Nathon and then you follow the same Song Tow instructions
above. When you get off the Express boat, and walk down
the pier to the town, be aware of traffic coming down the
pier behind you.
We hope these notes are helpful to some of you who haven't
visited us before, and we wish you a happy and safe journey
over to Big Buddha beach.
